This team is considered a European powerhouse, but they are probably the weakest team in their pool. The Netherlands played reasonably well in an exhibition against a split-squad Braves team this weekend. Their hitting, except for Andruw Jones, is decisively weak and their pitching, while not necessarily bad, is limited. They are going to have to play far above expectations to have a shot at advancing past Pool C.
Notable Players:
Andruw Jones – A great power hitter and very strong defensive outfielder. But it would take a spectacular performance for the 2005 MVP candidate to push the Netherlands into contention for advancement.
Conspicuously Missing:
Sidney Ponson – The Aruba born pitcher is sitting out, though it is questionable whether his presence would be enough to give the Netherlands team a chance at the second round.
Round 1 Schedule:

v. Cuba. Mar. 9, 7:00 PM EST, Deportes.
